An exceptionally nasty storm for the local area came in and utterly flattened many things. The island in the background is St Michael's Mount. That lost 80% of its trees blown down in the storm! The Isles of Scilly got it worse than mainland Cornwall. Northern France and the Channel Islands were also badly affected by wind.

Meanwhile we got a bit of wind around the back of the house one night, and I drove home from work in heavy rain.

Nope. More like a Nor'Easter. Very nasty winds on its southern side. Substantial snow on its northern side. In between it just rained a lot and there was a tiny amount of snow. Here saw that for example.
