As I understand it, B-29s had a simple auto-pilot system, which would let you enter request for a course change and the system would oblige...
( IIRC, this was related to the [CLASSIFIED] 'Norden' bomb-sight, too...)
Now, given the B-29 'twin cabin' was pressurised at altitude, it must fly below that for crew to 'safely' bail out.
Presumably, pilot / co-pilot would then set the controls after the rest were clear, walk-not-run to the exit...
Did auto-pilot include eg a timer to 'scuttle' the aircraft after exit ?
