The difference between diplomacy and war is this: Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell so elegantly that they pack for the trip.
War is bringing hell down on that someone.

Re: Art & Image Thread
Nice shot. I’m sure the ComBloc forces on the receiving end of that fire mission appreciated the effort put into it…

Photo: F-14A Tomcat aircraft of Fighter Squadron 84 (VF-84) operating from USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) during the ship's shakedown cruise and initial flight operations, while she was doing that she also took part in operations in support of the Cuba Blockade, November, 1989. The F-14s here can be seen banking to the left while flying in formation. The Tomcat in the foreground is armed with AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles on its outer pylons, AIM-7 Sparrow missiles on its inner pylons and practice bombs under the fuselage. The F-14A at center is armed with Sidewinders on the outer pylons, Sparrows on the inner pylons, and AIM-54 Phoenix missiles under the fuselage. The F-14A in the background is armed with Sidewinders on the outer pylons, Sparrows on the inner pylons and carries a tactical air reconnaissance pod system (TARPS) under the fuselage.
(I assume they used practice bombs during the blockade on Cuban targets for practice as well).
