1981 British Aerospace Filton Stiletto

Post by Paul Nuttall »

An interesting BAe Filton design has been listed on the Secret Projects website here

The British Aerospace Filton Stiletto was a 1981 British concept for a Mach 2 interceptor, inspired by and utilizing Concorde technology

and in this article here

both as advertising for a new book

82 feet long? That's a big plane!
Westray: That this is some sort of coincidence. Because they don't really believe in coincidences. They've heard of them. They've just never seen one.

Mach 2 cruise? 6 weapons stations, little thin there, Take off/landing seem a little short w/o help. The artist drawing shows a pretty airplane though.

I do NOT want to think of how that beastie handles a compressor stall or unstart with the engines that far apart.

Side note: I had an teacher in English for a couple of years (lovely lady) who was from Edinburgh. She’d insist that she spoke ”the Queen’s English”, which seemingly to her meant that she just didn’t use any Scots words with us students. However I am somewhat sceptical that her pronounciation of the words she did use would be taken as ”Queen’s English” outside of Scotland, so to speak. (Second side note: For a while and as a result I did get pretty good at mimicking a Scottish accent.)

My wife spent a little time in Ireland, the result of which is that every now and again, even though this was decades ago mind, an Irish twang in her accent happens.
Occasionally, just to annoy her, I put on the accent and she slips into some sort of parody of an Irish accent without realising it.
