Well, I rolled along to see a widely publicised exhibition by Japan's answer to Frida Kahlo*, the lady who is famous for wearing a red wig, and polka dots- Yayoi Kusama**. I want my day back.
* My favorite art critic " Frida Kahlo, who is perhaps the most interesting overrated artist of the 20th century. Interesting because the work is often piquant, eccentric and memorable, but overrated because she never really transcends a certain narcissistic fascination with her own life, history and identity, and consequently hardly ever paints anything of consequence apart from self-portraits. In this regard she is like those immature novelists who cannot write about anything except themselves. "
**"one of the most overrated and commercial of contemporary artists, Yayoi Kusama."

Re: Modern Art
I'm sorry, IMHO the most robust definition of 'Modern Art' was by the hapless janitor who accidentally cleared a gallery display along with visitors' discarded wrappers etc, "But it was indistinguishable from the real Trash !!"
Fortunately for posterity, zone's trash-bag was located near top of gallery's heaped dumpster...

Re: Modern Art
It wasn't all terrible, but one installation and a couple of early paintings and sketches and a very few of the clothes is slim pickings from the NGV's biggest exhibition (measured by attendance, and probably sheer volume of work). I must confess I am generally in agreement with the janitor.

You'll be complaining that policemen all look really young these days next
Seriously, it wasn't to your taste. Different people like different things, so go to a different type of exhibition in future.
