Re: General Discussion Thread
General O'Hanlon out at Warren got on the Primary Alert System today to the Midgetman wings and politely reminded them that Midgetman patrol boxes are fair game for TACAIR and SOF exercises.
(For varying values of "politely," of course. Paddy was not a happy camper. Thou shalt not make thy NAF CC look like a horse's ass in front of CINCSAC.)
And I have a new assignment: how in the hell did the 705 SMS CC make it through the wickets to get a command billet and then s*** the bed in less than a month, especially when their last ORI had zero discrepancies, even with the inspection team including some no-notice curveballs for TACAIR/SOF threats?

Has an ORI team been subject to an ORI? The team leader doing the ORI needs to a calm, thoroughly going professional, with an evil bent.
Any chance of getting Curtis LeMay back from the afterlife? I'm not sure who the second choice would be.

Sounds like there was an outbreak of the Stupids at the 705th…

ORIs were supposed to be cures for that sort of illness.
The difference between diplomacy and war is this: Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell so elegantly that they pack for the trip.
War is bringing hell down on that someone.

Re: General Discussion Thread
Apparently, the Squadron CC had disagreements with the new mobile missile doctrine, and addressed those disagreements in a stunningly elegant manner: he simply ignored doctrine and did what he wanted to do.

Or, in other words, he was a predictable American, insofar as he's either never read the doctrine, and if he has, he feels no obligation to follow it.
Which has wreaked much havoc on American enemies.

Except what he wanted to do was the doctrine that had been demonstrated to not work.clancyphile wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 4:44 amOr, in other words, he was a predictable American, insofar as he's either never read the doctrine, and if he has, he feels no obligation to follow it.

We spent a largish chunk of money on fixing some of the deficiencies of missile convoy security. He had his crews leave all that hardware in the garage. The result was that they were wandering around northeastern Nevada with absolutely no situational awareness, no tools to evade contact with SOF, and no tools to handle being hunted from the air.
CINCSAC Actual is not happy. Apparently, neither is Boss-Ma'am Actual.

But he undermined the deterrence posture of SAC. Deterrence is tricky; it is nothing more than ensuring that the adversary's state of mind is what we wish it to be (specifically, an overwhelming desire to not sample any of the sauce SAC can whip up). There are concrete actions that form part of that mindset; a successful GLORY TRIP from Vandenberg to Kwajelein contributes to that mindset. When a missile convoy evades TACAIR and SOF, or the TACTS says that the attacking F-15E got Marvined, same thing.Johnnie Lyle wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 5:37 amAt least he did the stupid in peacetime and thus no letters had to be written.Poohbah wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 5:02 amExcept what he wanted to do was the doctrine that had been demonstrated to not work.clancyphile wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 4:44 am

When a missile test ends in a range safety abort, or a convoy is fat, drunk, and stupid? It detracts from the desired mindset. And everyone has to work harder to get things back to where we want them.

Yes, but that’s far preferable to a shooting war. You have time to fix things, no equipment lost, no letters to write home, no enemy feeling frisky and full of themselves, and reinforcement of why not to do that.Poohbah wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 5:59 amBut he undermined the deterrence posture of SAC. Not ideal, but not the worst outcome.

I had to explain to my aide what "getting Marvined" means.
Apparently, I am officially old.

About twenty years ago, I was at an antique store in Kingsville, TX. I saw a bunch of stuff I grew up with in it. Point of reference my hometown had party lines until 1968.
Re: General Discussion Thread
Even the Commandant of the Marine Corps, my boss, has been wondering about that…

Re: General Discussion Thread
Well, COL Marty McStupid has been referred for a General Court Martial convened under the authority of CC 20AF, on charges of Articles 92, 107, and 133 of the UCMJ, along with his XO, LTC Mikey McMoron, The exec also gets Article 131c (Misprision of Serious Offense) because he knew about both the violation of standing 20AF and SAC orders, and that the squadron CC was boffing the squadron Senior Enlisted Advisor, CMSgt Megan McHotStuff, who gets Article 92, 107, and 134.

How in the heck did they get this far? Not to mention how they can breath and walk at the same time?
