"12 Concrete Evidence!"

Post by MikeKozlowski »

...Lemme explain.

I follow a gentleman named Ricky D. Phillips on TwiX - Falklands War historian and smart, decent guy - who does almost daily battle with Argentine Falklands revisionists. The one that keeps coming up is the claim that Invincible was actually sunk and replaced by Illustrious or Ark Royal (with a new name painted on it)...and the lengths to which the revisionists go to 'prove' this happened are at the very least funny and at worst, utterly deranged.

Anyways, a group in Argentina has been claiming to now be able to 'prove' Invincible's demise, and of course Mr. Phillips has been keeping an eye on it.

And here it is:

(BLINK)

(BLINK)

"What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

I wish people would start to understand that memes don't' by themselves count as evidence.

It's usual evidence of how witty or stupid the author is.

My God! Someone on the internet is wrong! We must immediately man the trenches, load the electron guns, and correct this travesty!

To be honest, I've never even heard about this.

Admittedly, its probably due to the fact that I don't speak spanish, and I am an american.

Most of the places that this sort of thing gets play is probably in south american.

I speak to Ricky most every week, a really switched-on guy who interviewed one of my buddies after a recommendation I made on Quora (he was the medic on scene at Lt. Col H Jones’ death at Goose Green). He is shaping up to be the definitive modern historian of the Falklands War.

Craig,

He did a chat with Drachinfels a week or so back on his new book about the Belgrano (which is on my birthday list):

Easy enough for the Argies to prove, hire those guys who find all those WWII ships to locate HMS Invincible on the sea floor.

I'll wait.

The Invincible Myth nutters are now posting Save the Date images for their fans... Apparently, tomorrow we find out "The truth about Invincible"... There is not enough popcorn for this

I wonder if they realize just how much they’re effectively hyping up the RN by suggesting that they could pull off a switch like this without it getting out. It would have been quite the feat!

It's still not the stupidest Falklands conspiracy theory. I think I mentioned on the Old Board the one about the war really being because the Argentine government was resisting the Lizardmen or Illuminati or something, and threatening to reveal to the world their secret fleet stored in South Georgia.

Which, apparently, consisted of exact copies of every ship in the US Navy, constructed at zero cost because modern production techniques mean you can build a second unit at the same time as the first without increasing the price. Or something like that.

When they don't find it or better refuse to look, the Argies will claim that's proof it happened since they're in on it.

If the in Invincible had been hit, there would have been 50,000 RN sailors telling everyone that they were there. Just like how half of the British Army was on the balcony at the Iranian Embassy.

There were 450,000 men in the Army at the time, so half is really stretching it. That balcony couldn’t accommodate more than 50,000 ;)

It’s just proof of Clydebank’s secret high speed 3D additive manufacturing system that came out in 1981 ;)

Don't forget the Atlantic Conveyor situation. Spare parts to totally reconstruct every plane in the FAA would have been lost on board, in addition to a substantial portion of those planes themselves. Enough spare parts to outfit two carriers would also have been there. Enough spies to staff both MI5 and MI6 would have been among those killed. Not to mention all of the RN personnel who would have transferred through the ship in the previous three months, losing qualification, pay, and disciplinary records along the way.

Ricky’s a good bloke. I’ve been Tweeting back and forth with him about this. We’ve had a bit of a laugh about how we could possibly have ‘covered up’ the casualties from the ‘attack’. Way things are going, the Argentinians will have been whining about attacking Vinnie for longer than the carrier was in service! :D

I’d also recommend Ricky’s Falklands books.
