Fiction that has not transferred ??
Will more fiction be salvaged, or are we looking at situation comparable to 'The Great Hack' of a decade ago which demolished TBO's first hosting site along with so many others ??
IIRC, that required extensive re-posting...

If you cannot see the wood for the trees, deploy LIDAR.

There’s an open request to please find and salvage as much as possible. Not just the stories but the subsequent discussions over those stories too, if that’s possible.Nik_SpeakerToCats wrote: ↑Sat Dec 10, 2022 11:14 am Will more fiction be salvaged, or are we looking at situation comparable to 'The Great Hack' of a decade ago which demolished TBO's first hosting site along with so many others ??

I have a download of this site from I think 2019 or 2020, which I am trying to get integrated into here- it may need to go into some archive instead.
Everything else is either lost, or available for copy & paste via the Wayback Machine… <just add manpower>

I've been contacted by former member who has a ~500 MB SQL 'grab' of site from early 2020.
As dropped off radar for 'personal reasons', I'll not name. But, would such a 'grab' be useful ??

If for no other reason, I would like such a grab. Not sure how such a thing would get to me, but if its a possibility, I'll be happy to PM you my contact info, for you to forward to them.
I don't know who you're talking about, but I would personally appreciate it if you would extend my well wishes to them, and tell them that I both respect their decision and miss them.

What he said. I didn't have copies of a lot of my stuff.Belushi TD wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 1:32 pm If for no other reason, I would like such a grab. Not sure how such a thing would get to me, but if its a possibility, I'll be happy to PM you my contact info, for you to forward to them.

That’s the one I have, please get hold again so it exists somewhere other than my inbox.Nik_SpeakerToCats wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 1:01 pm I've been contacted by former member who has a ~500 MB SQL 'grab' of site from early 2020.

A hearty agreement with that.
I’ve only been able to find dribs and drabs of my stuff via Wayback, but the majority of the most expansive material was pre 2020.
I know what I had up in the period of the ‘new old site’, which looks like it will have to just go up again, sans comments; it would comprise ~5 stories (A New Jerusalem, Castellan, Reunion, The Siege of Charlotteville and Return to Charlotteville), a decent chunk of Exercise Warhammer and a bunch of Timeline stuff.
As an author, it is the comments, questions and chatter that is the real gold; I’ve got copies of my own work saved from here to eternity.

Would creating a read-only tboverse.com/archive site be an easier task for the IT guy?Craiglxviii wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 9:10 amI have a download of this site from I think 2019 or 2020, which I am trying to get integrated into here- it may need to go into some archive instead.
Related question. Would the current Admin have sufficient access to the download database to see the email addresses everyone registered with, and thus try to contact MIA members?
Wayback is a mixed bag. I was able to salvage a fair amount of TLW material. But in most cases, only the first page of a thread was archived. Given how long a lot of threads get around here, that's not good.Everything else is either lost, or available for copy & paste via the Wayback Machine… <just add manpower>

Creating a read-only archive might indeed be a better bet. I have some discussion ongoing over this.James1978 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 7:58 pmWould creating a read-only tboverse.com/archive site be an easier task for the IT guy?Craiglxviii wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 9:10 amI have a download of this site from I think 2019 or 2020, which I am trying to get integrated into here- it may need to go into some archive instead.

As to Admin rights for the old database… I just don’t know. Only Stuart was the Admin and I don’t know if that carries over at database level. I guess we’ll find out.
