Good books? Great Films? Good television? Best Music? Or those that really need avoidance? This is where to review and comment on new fact or fiction.

The tracer / incendiary round...

Post by Nik_SpeakerToCats »

I happened across a movie snippet on You-tube, need a reality-check.

I do not know the movie, but bear with me...

Three US SpecFor high on dry hillside overlooking deserted road in generic Stan-ish valley.

There are a number of dark marks / puddles on road.

Suspecting IED, team sniper is bid put a .50 into first mark. Nothing.

Likewise, the others: Nothing...

Then sniper is bid target a patch with an incendiary round-- BOOOM !!!

Debris flies everywhere...

Okay, spectacular theatre/FX, but is there a basis in fact ??
If you cannot see the wood for the trees, deploy LIDAR.

Absolutely believe it as far as I'm concerned. We flew .50 API on the Buff G, and I saw what it could do to fairly heavy steel plate; it would have shredded anything it could reasonably expect to encounter.

Incendiary won't necessarily set off explosives. The shock from getting hit by a supersonic bullet will.

So mostly BS for drama's sake. If incendiary was needed to set off IEDs a lot, they wouldn't use anything else.

"So mostly BS for drama's sake."

That's a relief: Always scary when 'suspension of disbelief' glitches and I go, 'Huh ??'
