Torpedo revolver

Post by Micael »

I saw some photos pop up on twitter concerning this. The museum submarine Nordkaparen in Gothenburg is of the Draken II class built in the 60’s, and they had an unusual torpedo reloading mechanism. A revolver style drum.

Pretty neat. Made for quick reloads of the four torpedo tubes apparently.

Keeps the tube count down, the hull slim / nimble...

Any info on how long tube reloads took ??
If you cannot see the wood for the trees, deploy LIDAR.

A look from the other end (from Nordkaparen's wiki page):

I suppose these are greater diameter than the revolver loader for the S-300 launchers onboard Russian cruisers.

H.I. Sutton has a page on the possible Swedish nuclear sub and it has a couple of diagrams of the torpedo revolver.

Westray: That this is some sort of coincidence. Because they don't really believe in coincidences. They've heard of them. They've just never seen one.
