Yes. Even the Aussies don’t seem to have messed up the procurement.

Re: US Navy News

The USN never quite seems to get the FFG right. The T26 & T31 are looking like nice platforms, btw. Just saying.

Simon, there’s a lesson for me here. Never post when tired, ill and in a bad mood. My apologies to the late Mr Forsyth.

Re: Frederick Forsyth has passed

IMVHO, it’s not an attack to say I was not a huge fan of his politics. His books were great and hugely well researched. He was, AFAIK, when not discussing politics, a gentleman. However, some of his political views were conspiratorial and verging on the mad.

Re: For Bernard and Craig: Cookery on the Western Front

Yup. The medical system was very advanced. The Not So Quiet on the Western Front podcast had a good overview of the British casualty clearing system, and with only slight changes it’s the same one that we use today. It’s been written that the next major advance in the military medical system was th...

Re: The Last War? : Chapter 382

Refresh my memory, please. The Soviet defector is the one from the airliner that diverted to Diego Garcia? The airliner that diverted to D-G had the origional escorts to the defector onboard. They were acting as decoys while the defector went via Australia. It doesn't really follow. They aren't goi...

If Wiki is to be believed, he was a Lieutenant Commander, then became a Commander in he final episode. IIRC, Bernard made him a captain. I went digging to check. He's mentioned as a Captain in Ch.203. When I wrote that the reboot didn’t exist. Since both reboot series explicitly exist in the same u...

Thank you. The mouse ‘friend’ she made on Saturday morning might not agree, though! 😹
Thankfully, AFAIK, the mouse came to know harm. Despite evidently being the dumbest mouse in the U.K. I mean, how stupid do you have to be to run towards a cat, multiple times!

It represented a Soviet tank battalion. 30 odd tanks was about the right strength for one, IIRC.

Re: Art & Image Thread

Between 1985 and late 1986, the army’s contribution was built around a reinforced light infantry battalion. From late 1986 it was reduced to a single infantry company. At the same time the squadron of Phantom FGR.2 was reduced to a flight of 6 and late 4 aircraft.

Re: The Last War? : Chapter 382

I keep asking myself if the Heer will enter the DDR. Legally under the Four Powers Agreement, they weren‘t allowed to, if I remember correctly. I'm not sure the FPA is in force at this point. :D FWIW, the Feldjäger could have acquired a specialty that was only developed in @ after the Bundeswehr we...

Thank you very much. Appreciate your comments.

I did think it would be interesting to have the Belgians be the first to enter the GDR in force.

The Last War? : Chapter 382

With thanks to Matt Wiser. * D+31 * 1335 hours. Air Defence Range Manorbier, Pembrokeshire, Wales. The drone began its run into the range. It was one of the brand-new Banshee Jet 40, which had only entered service in the last few months. It jinked hard as its operator made life hard for the AA syst...

Re: Royal Navy Order Of Battle

I'm curious, in what way are the T.8Ns too large for the deck lifts? Everything else fit the deck lifts, right? AFAIK, they were too long. Their vertical tail was also higher than a SHAR, though I'm not sure if it would have been an issue. I have also harboured doubts about how much 'give away' a T...
