Postal...

Post by Nik_SpeakerToCats »

I've a lot of 'Winter Sales' arriving.
Couriers from Amazon, Post Office, Yodel, Evri and another, nigh-unpronounceable, are frequent visitors.

So, yesterday, mid-Monday morning, there's a little red Post van and a Postie bearing an anonymous Amazon baggie and a rather large, but shallow box.
Fortunately, intended recipient had ticked latter's 'Use Seller's Box', which may give clue to contents.
A twin-hob worktop cooker ??

Studying *very* pale label, I realised it was addressed to Mr Squiggle at 'My Road' rather than me at 'My Drive'.
Oh, and the postal district was off by two, so a couple of miles.
Cue Postie consternation.
Took both him and driver to study, decipher pale label, agree that this parcel really, really was not mine.
"Sorry about that !!"

No problem, given I'd reached door before Postie had stuffed both items into a wheelie bin...

Today, Tuesday, Postie rang with another parcel.
Well, three actually, my two and, yes, that twin-hob again.

After consternation, hilarity.

I'm expecting it again tomorrow but, this time, I Have A Cunning Plan !!

"Tic-Tac-Toe, Three Hobs In A Row !!"

And the prize ? A 5-pack of black Sharpies !!

I wish our driveway were 100m long. I swear new world records would be broken by the run for the van by our delivery drivers. OK I assume they are paid piece-rate.

When I was growing up it happened so that both my family and that of my uncle lived at number ten of two streets with semi-similar names. Same surname, street number, and similar street name meant that it happened more than once that mail adressed to one showed up at the other. Always a bit amusing to hear dad sigh when looking through the mail and say that he’d have to call his brother again.

For awhile Google
Maps had erased our road. There are only two addresses on the road so I sorta understand how that happened, although I’m not particularly sympathetic.

This led to some “interesting” results in deliveries.

One road with one letter difference in the name was the recipient of about a dozen packages over the several months that it took to straighten Google Maps out. A couple of people there figured out the correct address and one of the packages had my phone number on the delivery instructions. So I made a number of trips out to the other mailbox. It was about a 30 mile round trip.

I did have some increasingly entertaining conversations with FedEx …..

Just remember

I’ve noticed that a lot of delivery drivers have developed the habit of simply leaving stuff on our doorstep. Without so much as knocking on the door or ringing the doorbell. As we’re right on the street that’s not great. Sometimes we only realise that there has been a delivery when checking our emails.

Thankfully, nothing has been nicked, or damaged by weather. Yet.

When I first moved into the house I currently occupy and still occasionally I get mail for a similar local street. I live on Lori Mahone Overlook and get mail addressed to Lesley Faye...I can walk mail to the other address but just leave it in the mail box for redelivery.

Mid-afternoon, was loading 'recycle' wheelie bin when that little, red Postie van came around the corner...
Traffic being uncommonly quiet, van slowed to a crawl, and Postie *waved* !!
I may have made a friend...

Well, let's see what happens tomorrow !!

Same here. I make a point of then getting a refund every time this happens.

It continues to happen..!

The peripatetic 'Twin Hob' has not made a return appearance, but another parcel is due Tu/Wed this week.

For beating sense into the system, Postie earns two 5-packs of Sharpies.
For again bearing 'Twin Hob', Postie qualifies for consolation prize, those two 5-packs of Sharpies...

Win/Win ??

There have been a number of instances here where home CCTV has caught couriers throwing parcels at the front door from some metres away.

Let alone the doorbell being rung!

My last Foxtel boxes were delivered to the wrong address after my having had long conversations with someone in Manilla as to my correct address. Where I have been for over 40 years and had Telstra/Foxtel all that time!

Today, Postie delivered expected parcel.
NOT that peripatetic double-hob, though, which has apparently made its way to correct destination.

Postie was almost in tears when gifted the two 5-packs of Sharpies for him and colleagues.
"These will be SO USEFUL !! Thank You !!"
