An old wreck was observed off the German island of Rügen a few years ago as the Nordstream pipeline was being built. It’s been confirmed now that it is the Swedish twenty gun frigate Postiljon, launched in 1701 and which foundered in the ice there in 1714 during the Great Nordic War. There have been some items recovered so far including cannons, muskets, rapiers, and the ship’s bell sporting Carolus Rex’ coat of arms on it. Further dives are planned to be conducted. It’s neat when we can find and explore old ship wrecks like this one, adds to the overall understanding of the era.
