Question, would these be the former Sjöormen-class submarines and if so, with the Cold war still going on, would they not be kept by the Swedish instead of being transferred to Singapore.

I would draw your attention to Swedish Navy ORBAT - author unknown, but salvaged many moons ago from the Yahoo! group. Short answer, no, they left Swedish service. Which means they went into my spreadsheet of surplus warships.

But since you asked, I did get curious myself and ran the numbers of the historic size of the Swedish submarine force. By my count, the were at 14 boats in 1981-1982, then bounced between 12-13 boats through the end of the Cold War in @. In TLWverse 2005 they are at 11 boats. As individual units become more capable, and budgets go to the Visby-class corvettes, 11 boats doesn't strike me as a major cut.

If more subs are needed, additional Gotland-class seem a better bet than trying to stretch boats that would be 36-37 years old in TLWverse 2005. Sure, that just makes them 36-37 year old boats in Singaporean service, but in a very different ASW environment than the TLWverse 2005 Baltic. Are other countries running boats that age? Yea. But Sweden can probably afford a fifth Gotland if it's an issue.
