Yep. If you are diligent at something, you will get all the blame, even if it's a good outcome. If you're going to save the world, make sure somebody else gets the credit in case there's a crucifixion involved.

It's an actual job in projects, the sacrificial goat, that guy in the corner who's involved in all the crucial meetings and on the priority email list.
If things go wrong his job is to take the fall.
Not a bad job, as you get paid, do very little real work and if things go well you get to keep the job until eventually a project hits a serious problem.
