Interesting Podcast

So like I'm sure many members here also do I often listen to podcasts when travelling for work or in the background whilst doing tasks.

I have tended towards military history but have since the 2022 and Ukraine going into full scale conflict military politics and defence economics have become more interesting to me.

In the past week or so I stumbled across a podcast run by the Times where one of the hosts is General Sir Patrick Sanders (retired Chief of the Defence Staff i.e. he was the most senior actively serving UK military officer) along with a journalist.

The most recent episode was very interesting with them interviewing the current junior minister for the armed forces. Who happens to have been CO of the SBS having come up through the ranks, resigned to become a politician having been confirmed promoting to Brigadier and for some reason joined the Labour party.

The thinking behind the utility and force posture of drones was the interesting bit for me, even if I don't entirely agree with his perspective about AI enabled drone usage (as opposed to pattern recognition programmes or targeting logic which isn't really AI). He is definitely a good politician in his ability to not answer questions whilst making a talking point. Very different to his flat out "I won't answer that question" responses to things like his SF service or current operations.

Also an interesting previous episode with the US general running the US Army Future command.
