Rewatching Interstellar Arrival and Annihalation

Sometimes I rewatch old films. I was looking forward to Interstellar, mainly the score and the water planet. Matt Damon was good as the nutter. The cornfield scene is just a bit of filler, and once he goes into the black hole I lost interest. Arrival is clever but a plot summary would tell the whole story. And finally we get to Annihalation, with reliable Natalie as the lead. The score drove me a bit bananas, just cos it is set in the south east of the USA you don't have to use music from round there. The 4 lost little girls and the suicidal leader wandering around steamy swamps fully encumbered with fridge sized packs and pew-pew sticks make it look like very hard work. The ending is a bit hard to decode first time through. Easily the best of the three.

One thing I liked about 'Arrival' was that it showed how hard it could be to communicate with aliens.

One of my favorite SF novels on that is China Mieville's Embassytown.
