I just learned that the 747 prototype at the Museum of Flight was used to test the aerial refueling capability of the SR-71.

The caption on this photo reads:

“On Jul. 6, 1972, Mery Evenson and Coz Mallozzi flew SR-71 Blackbird test airframe ‘955 on a 3-hour sortie, checking out refuelling flight envelope and ‘dry-boom’ contact checks with the boom-equipped Boeing 747.”

I didn’t know any of this, so I never looked for it. Next time I’m in Seattle, I’ll get some better photos.

Been to the Museum 3 times, never noticed it.

I would love to see KC747s part of a MITO.
