Does this clip of Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew signing an ordinance taking US liquor off Manitoban store shelves remind you of anybody?

I always feel better when the Politian can deliver a joke and it's funny.

Funny, but they already paid for that booze. Now they have to pay to store it, and they also have to pay for secure storage to support additional booze purchases from non-American suppliers.
Performative idiocy for the masses.

I actually saw something that claimed that for the Jack Daniels stuff atleast they had some sort of a deal where they could return it to the maker for a refund if unsold. In that case it makes more sense.

And that alleged idiocy becomes serious when no more orders are placed by retailers for wares from the USA.
Just as an aside, a lot of Europeans are doing the same. In Denmark, for example, supermarkets mark non-US products.

Don't know about Manitoba, but in Ontario it's all on sale-or-return, with payments being made when sold.

Ontario can get away with that in some cases, because it’s the biggest single liquor market around. Manitoba isn’t, although if you’ve been to the ‘Peg this might surprise you. If anyone has a reason to drink it’s them.

“Sale or Return” it’s called, and it’s quite a common contract clause where the manufacturers are certain of their sales but the distributors may not be quite so much so.
