Farewell to a Friend

This afternoon, we lost our 7 year old Labrador, Buddy, after a very sudden deterioration of a heart condition.

My first dog, he showed the meaning of man’s best friend through his utter loyalty, devotion, enthusiasm and love. For someone who has never really experienced happiness, joy or being wanted or needed, he gave them to me in spades. We really based our lives around him, and now I’m worried for my mother’s welfare and the impact of grief upon her.

The best licker, the naughtiest would-be thief of anything that dropped on a floor, and the biggest flirt for attention from any humans (particularly tradesmen and deliverymen, but not the postman, whose helmet was a cause of great suspicion), and a comforting nurse, always eager to clean every wound or scratch, we will miss him like crazy. So too will his numerous girlfriends, who he cultivated at multiple daycares, and every man, woman and child he came into contact with.

Dogs are too good for this world.

Vale, my Buddy.

My condolences. Its always hard to loose a family member, even if the family member has four feet and is furry.

I will toast the pooch this evening during the cocktail hour, and I'll use the good scotch.

I think it got dusty in here somehow.

So sorry to hear this, Simon, my deepest condolences. Nothing can ever replace them.

I bawled like a baby when I had my Stinky put down during covid, (The vet would not come into my house, I had to wrap him in a blanket and carry him outside while they put him to sleep.) Its traumatic, I just try to remember that death is when the pain ends and the good memories begin.

You have my condolences. Losing a pet is always hard.
