Welp.....

....The 'vid has done caught up with the Fair Melissa and I - we both popped positive yesterday.
The good news - we were both 100% up to speed on our shots, so we both have the equivalent of bad colds. We got straight in to FT Jackson, and the US Army lived up to its reputation - did its job superbly but sloooooooooooooooowly. Upon reading the Sacred Protocols, we were given Paxlovid and tactical nuclear strength Mucinex, then sent home for the next five days. Work is being amazing, and I had plenty of vacation time, so no losses there. So, lotsa time to to write and build.
We'll keep you posted.

Please keep a weather eye on things and don’t hesitate to seek medical attention if things get worse.
Lots of people report Paxlovid has a funny metallic aftertaste. You may want something like the Vicks vaporub cough drops to both clear your head and the taste.
The good news is that lots of people ate not losing the sense of taste and smell this go around, unlike bog standard COVID, so you can still enjoy Christmas dinner, just a smaller one.
Hopefully you’ll be back in battery in a few days.

Yeah, metallic as hell.
It was very unpleasant, but it seems to have almost eliminated symptoms for me. Went from feeling achy with a fever on Monday, started taking it on Tuesday and had pretty much nothing on Wednesday (was actually out splitting wood).
Best of luck with it and I hope you feel better soonest.

I’ve been down with something since Thursday evening. Starting to get okayish now though, and I don’t think it was Covid this time around. Tests said no, and it felt a lot different in the body. Several different pretty nasty things going around now.

Yup, respiratory and GI crap like mad. Flu, RSV, human metapneumovirus, even some noro.

You are absolutely right on the aftertaste - one of the more...unique things I've experienced in a while.
I was kind of uncomfortable last night but woke up this morning actually feeling pretty good, all things considered. And we are fully prepared to seek attention at the slightest sing of things getting worse - I can't test again until Monday morning, but I think we've bottomed out already.

I copped it with an industrial strength chest infection last week, on the back of dancing around the family all coming back with colds, or D&V… I fully sympathise with you! Plenty of fluids and rest for the pair of you, and fingers crossed you’ll have recovered in time for Christmas Eve

Back when I had it earlier this year I tested negative for several days before the positive test came in.
I didn’t think I had it partly because I could taste almost everything just fine.
What I and several others lost the taste for was -
coffee
A true disaster! For about a month coffee tasted like dog manure.
Prayers for a speedy recovery!

Truly a fate worse than death, though one wonders how you know what dog manure tastes like.
I’m not really a fan of the at-home test kits, especially given all of the shipping and temperature issues. Lots of possibilities to go wrong. One of our universities developed a saliva-based test they rolled out through the community, and it was non-invasive, reliable and easy to use. The at home kits really only have convenience going for them.

We've been camping on a beach for the last couple of weeks, and my wife said to me, wouldn't it be nice if one of 'them' got covid and we could cancel Christmas and stay here. So, driving home, teary daughter phones up, she's got it, terrified of giving it to the outlaws, who are a bit fragile, wants to self isolate at our house in town.
Yes of course.
So we got to cancel Christmas (which we were going to have in town) and stay instead at our house/shack in the sticks. She's having a rotten time tho. And of course I have a job list a mile long.

That is truly unfortunate. Does “dog manure” translate to “stoker coffee” in aviation-speak? Black, thick like tar and acidic enough to burn through deck plates?

Fwiw I’ve found that covering up a bad aftertaste is best done with something that has a stronger aftertaste. Like Ouzo, or possibly Pernod if you’re fancy.

No, “dog manure” just meant that the coffee tasted like crap for about a month. I was surprised to see that several of us in the House all had COVID19 at the same time with the same response to coffee.
