Anyone here using Win 11? What is your opinion of it? Good points? Bad points?

I'm using Windows 11 at home and work. I'm having issues with it seeing the domain controller at work. Which means drive access is iffy.

Bunch a little stuff is annoying. Don't upgrade at home until you have to. Work you may not have a choice.

Every time my Win'10 PCs do an update, they whinge that they are unfit to run '11.

It's the 'security' thing, IIRC.

I may be able to find something to enable in BIOS of my recent, custom-build network-render 'Box', but this CAD-Tower is much, much too old...

When is '10 end-of-life ?

Uh, remember when we were told '10 was the 'be-all-and-end-all' OS, just updates, no new versions ??? :? :? :? :? :?

I'm looking at new laptops, my Lenovo is 13 years old and won't run Win 11. Most of the new ones come with Win 11 Home. The cheaper ones run in S mode, which I will definitely NOT do. Some have an upgrade to 11 Pro, don't know if its worth the price or not.

I have not upgraded, mostly due to having a terminally slow connection and paranoia about change...

A friend who has has been very pleasantly surprised at how trouble-free it was though.

Since Windows 10 has become a reasonably stable and reliable platform, most of us won’t upgrade until Oct 15, 2025.

Last Friday my primary work computer had issues, so after trying to fix it and failing, I reimage it back to Windows 10. The replacement computer I was going to use, had the same issue. After two days of research, I found out why. I had hack to hack the registry.

Note, we're still having issues with the computers not seeing the domain controller.

I may not even after that. I don't have a great desire to junk a perfectly good computer. Although I may get an up to date computer for a network front end.

Employers with IT departments will probably force people to for work stuff.

My personal laptop is a MacBook from 2010 or so. Most web stuff I do on my phone, so spending money on a new computer is a low priority.

In 30 days, I will be my own employer :D

Hmm.

I'm finding myself needing to purchase a new computer for home use since my old desktop is painfully slow and my laptop is physically almost destroyed thanks to a six year old. Wasn't aware that Win 11 was a thing, so this just added more to the decision paralysis

You could emulate Braxton Bragg and send yourself a request for a new computer and then deny it.

The home computers are running okay. The Pro version is what's giving me fits at work. BTW, another plant with brand new stuff isn't having the domain access issues.

My wife bought a new POS (HP) with W10. About a week later it announced that W11 was ready to install, and since it was no skin off my nose I hit Yes.

Compared with W10 on my work computer it is different in many meaningless ways and better in none that I can see. I can't seem to move the taskbar to vertical on the LHS of the screen, which is where I prefer it, but everybody else hates that.

When I retired this past spring, TJJD still had some computers running Win XP. . . . . my work computer was running Win 10
