...USS Lafayette FFG-65. Good name.

@CavasShips

Might be a good time to consider a new Rochambeau as well.

(Oh and won’t you consider naming something small von Stedingk too. ;) )

Yeah, I think that’s the only Swede that’s been honored with a US Navy ship name. Though there is a USNS John Ericsson in service, slated to decom in 2026.

The US ROCHAMBEAU was a transport. DUNDERBERG was renamed ROCHAMBEAU when the French bought her.

Yeah but to be fair I kind of think Rochambeau deserves to be a combat vessel. A frigate would do it.

Negative there Ghost Rider. Rochambeau is Army, not Navy. Name a nice fort after him.

LAFAYETTE has significant combat history in the USN and fugly warshipness, whereas ROCHAMBEAU does not.

But grandfathered due to polluting the Mississippi with ugly and hauling nukes around for a few decades.

I'm hoping after Biden leaves office, for a Winston Churchill. Yes, I know he wasn't a US Citizen, but I think he deserves it.

Anything wrong with the current USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG-81)?

Plenty of DDGs named for politicians we can fix.

Heerman, Hoel, Johnston and Ernest Evans are available. The latter is actually 3/4 Native American, so would please both sides of the aisle.

My initial thought was Samuel B. Roberts, but that's a shoreside damage control training establishment now. Considering the fate of the first and last Samuel B Roberts, I'm not sure if naming another ship that would necessarily be a good idea. Given the history, a DC trainer is wonderful.

Good for DDGs, but the CONSTELLATIONs are being named for historical ships that we don’t have CVs or big-deck amphibs for.

GUERIERRE, MACEDONIAN and JAVA would be good choices. So would CYANE, LEVANT, PEACOCK, INTREPID, and some of the Civil War ships like CARONDELET.

Was hoping the next two would have been the USS United States & President, to fill out the remaining of the original 6 Frigates... oh well.

....So, when this actually popped up on Twitter from SECNAV's account, I sent back the following:

"Excellent choice, Mister Secretary. Any chance we could get a new RANGER soon?"

Crickets ever since. I think the lad knows I'm keeping an eye on him. ;)
