The SS-18 could carry as many as 14 RVs. It could be that they overloaded the Whiteman birds and then forgot to load the 14 RV program into the flight computer. The Whiteman strike was a fiasco, and everyone involved probably creatively rewrote the records to send some other poor dumb bastards to Gulag instead of themselves...

You all might want to wish Kelly Ray congratulations: she is the new President of Cuba-POWs: it's the advocacy group for former POWs held on the island from 1985-90. Anyone held there-military or civilian, is eligible for membership. One thing she did as President of the Idaho Chapter was push very early on for the POW kids to be eligible to join as well. Not their fault or their Moms' about the circumstances of where they were born.
As for the SS-18 warheads in Missouri: sixteen targets (15 LCCs plus Whiteman itself). That's three missiles' worth, and only a dozen total have been found as of now. The warhead count should be 48, assuming three RVs per target.

War is bringing hell down on that someone.

This, of course, assumes that the missiles in question actually worked properly, and didn't suffer some kind of failure during any part. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it possible that the missile broke up early in its flight, and could concievably have scattered warheads anywhere along its projected flight path? Or do we have some kind of tracking data from NORAD?Matt Wiser wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 4:47 am You all might want to wish Kelly Ray congratulations: she is the new President of Cuba-POWs: it's the advocacy group for former POWs held on the island from 1985-90. Then you'll have to shoot all the KGB officers controlling the warheads. Business before pleasure.

Re: General Discussion Thread
From my AWC notes, the missiles were coming in nominally: BMEWS (which was not attacked on Day One) tracked the missiles and this shot was coming in nominally. Everything worked except for one thing: no warhead initiations. And the Soviet strike plan didn't allow for restrikes.Belushi TD wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 12:03 pmThis, of course, assumes that the missiles in question actually worked properly, and didn't suffer some kind of failure during any part. Has Boss-Ma'am had a discussion with The Firm over their hiring practices? They seem to attract people with issues.

Re: General Discussion Thread
Well, Roberta's editor is satisfied with the last round of changes to the manuscript, and her book is being passed to art & layout to integrate the text and pictures together so that the book flows well. It's going to be an oversized format, essentially a coffee table book.
It's fascinating; she looks at Wright's work solely from the perspective of an American professional architect, explaining what got built, how it got built, why it got built...and the explaining why some of us greatest works didn't get built.
And she does all this while keeping it at a level where an interested layman can follow along.
She somehow managed to keep it away from Wright the Man and kept her focus on Wright the Architect, which has previously been impossible because Wright the Man is a larger-than-life character of immense gifts...and foibles...who just sucks the air out of the room.
It's tentatively scheduled for publication in October 2024.

Re: General Discussion Thread
The Tierrasanta neighborhood in San Diego was built on top of the impact area for Camp Elliott, which was a Marine Corps training facility, and the developers got Congress to force the Navy to release the land for development despite everyone knowing that there was UXO all over the damn place (word is one of the surveyor crews from the City of San Diego found a 105mm she'll the hard way in 1963).Wolfman wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 6:13 pmISTR that it was a school in I think it was Kentucky?clancyphile wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2023 2:31 pmIs it wrong that I'm curious as to whether any kids found one for show-and-tell, as was the case with a San Diego-area school whose staff got on a first-name basis with local EOD teams?Matt Wiser wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2023 7:39 am Poorly designed or not, enough of them initiated on Invasion Day over LCCs.
All through the 1970s and 1980s, kids were finding UXO. A couple kids died in 1983 when a piece of UXO suddenly turned into XO.
A reunion of the original faculty and staff of Tierrasanta Elementary School ended up including the Team OIC and senior CPO from the Navy's San Diego EOD unit...
