I saw a blurb somewhere about more nukes appearing on the black market. Can't remember the site, but I wasn't impressed by it.

In that neighborhood? Pull the other one, it’s got bells on it…

Boss-Ma'am likes to get hands-on early in a new job. She also knows when to step out front and center , and when to be what the movie credits list as "Woman in Dark Gray Blazer #2."

Dean Ing in one of Wild Country novels had a theory. In any large organization, there's a few hundred people who make things work and if they don't know it each other, they know of them.

People in the know pay attention to what she's doing and not SOS. She talks to POTUS several times a day, no SOS.

If she does as well as I think she will, there will be talk of her running for President or VP. She won't.

Who in their right mind would want either of those jobs?

That's why she won't.

One thing that I can say from having known and worked with her since junior high school: she doesn't want the job. She isn't the sort of person who seeks power, glory, or wealth solely for the sake of having those things.

She never wanted to be in the Air Force--until America needed her.

She never sought martial glory--she merely sought to do her duty as best as she could. She never sought promotion; the rank came because her seniors found her to be both capable and trustworthy, living by the Air Force's core values of Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence In All We Do.

She never sought wealth as a goal; she wanted to make a living from her knowledge and skill in computer security.

The only way she would ever consider running for President is if you convinced her that it was the right thing to do for America. Now, that would be an extremely hard sell. Not impossible, but extremely difficult.

That’s a good question.

Well, today was a really good day.

Mostly because it could have been an absolutely horrible day, but because Divine Providence watches over idiots, drunkards, children, and the Strategic Air Command, it wasn't.

So, our resident B-1 wing (22 BW) here at March got tapped to do a MITO exercise this morning.

And just as the klaxon went off and the FAA controllers announced that March's TCA was off-limits to all traffic from a kid throwing a paper airplane in study hall at March Middle School over in Moreno Valley to, say, hypothetically, television news station helicopters covering a high-speed pursuit on the 215 . . .

(Yes, that was foreshadowing . . . )

The local news station chopper covering a high-speed pursuit on the 215 decided that he could blow off the FAA.

He flew into the departure pattern as the fleeing car turned east onto Cactus Avenue . . . just in time for the first pair of Bones to clear the end of the runway less than 3,000 feet away. Followed 12 seconds later by a second pair, and 14 seconds after that by a third pair. Somehow, by the grace of God, there wasn't a midair or a wake turbulence-induced crash during those 26 seconds. The footage from the news copter is absolutely terrifying for anyone who's ever worn a flight suit as something other than fashionable attire--the second pair of Bones had less than 50 feet vertical and less than half a wingspan lateral clearance.

The local FAA boss wanted to know if I still had the scimitar, and if she could borrow it. (I regretfully told her that it's in the Marine Corps Museum at Quantico.)

The news station is officially in Deep Kimchi with the FAA, and the FCC has already announced that they're planning to review their licensing package.

Somebody up above was watching over all parties on this one.

Just what is it about SoCal Newsies and the military anyway? That goes back at least to the RamDyne mess and those freelance newsies getting involved in the chase-and themselves killed-in the process.
The difference between diplomacy and war is this: Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell so elegantly that they pack for the trip.
War is bringing hell down on that someone.

Goes back to when I was an aerial gunner trainee--the newscopter people think they can blow off the FAA. There have been multiple incidents since 1985 at LAX and John Wayne as well.

You know, shooting a news chopper down would get their attention.

Yanking all the station’s licenses ought to get their attention as well.

That is apparently being seriously considered this time out. Nearly losing one or two B-1s has gotten everyone's attention.

Even a Mk-76 blue practice bomb will leave a sizable dent in a car (or hole in the pavement). Imagine an inert Mk-82 500-lb. doing the same thing...
