Two other boats (James K. Polk and Kamehameha received the SOF modifications as Sam Houston and John Marshall. You may be referring to Kamehameha, which was lost a few days before the Northern Theater cease-fire. Those two sinkings were tied for the largest loss of life in a USN sub sinking.

Too bad a lot of data on the image is redacted. That could be one of mine for all I know. And yes, we did do some missile hunts back in those days.

Any information that could help ID who did the strike has been redacted, meaning EVERYTHING has been redacted…

Yes, it is. She flew several different birds, some Euro 1 or 2, some SEA, and even a couple in a desert scheme.
