The Mexican artillery fire plan consisted of "yank the lanyard one time and get the f*** out of there before the counter battery mission hit."

Or the air strike was called in.

Those things had a really long reach, IIRC.

They did. And the Mexicans were actually smart: since the Armistice terms prohibited heavy armor and artillery up to 25NM south of the border, they got GPS units-commercially available, mind you, and presurveyed battery sites, missile launch positions, and a lot more from the Colorado River all the way to Matamoros and the Gulf Coast. Lot of good it did them in the end...

That looks like something out of a Gerry Anderson show.

To bad the Victor K2 was not able to refuel a Rockwell/BAe Lancer B.1 in flight, because that would be something to see.

Forrestal-class aircraft carrier USS Ranger (CV-61) in background undergoing underway replenishment. photo taken most likely after the end of the First Kamthatka Raid codenamed VERMONT CEDAR, 1987. VERMONT CEDAR involved a multi-carrier battlegroup, a surface action group centered on the USS Missouri, EASTERN EXPRESS strikes from Hong Kong, and special operations support from, of all branches, the Air Force.

October 1986, actually. One historian describes it as the Navy and Air Force deciding to return the favor for Puget Sound.

The Lancer B.1 was modified to use the 'probe & drogue' refuelling system. So, theoretically a Victor could have refuelled one. However, I believe when they did need AAR, the RAF used Tristars. Interestingly, these days the RAF uses the 'flying boom' system to refuel its Lancers and Globemasters. The Voyager KC.1 being equipped similar to the RAAF KC-30A (see attached pic).

I think they wanted to show the Russians how it was suppose to be done.
I can't remember did any of the Russian surface fleet sortie or was it no ships were around?

I posted this over at my forum, do not know if it is canon.

There were some surface units, but most of the ships encountered were KGB Maritime Border Guards or Navy coastal forces (Said FAC (M) and FAC (Torpedo).
