Re: Art & Image Thread
UK Polaris missiles post Chevaline upgrade generally had two warheads with a yield of 225Kt. Since Chevaline was not a MIRVing system, both warheads would hit in the area of the same target.
Re: Art & Image Thread
I do wonder what kind of Intel the Soviets could collect on a live fire of Chevaline at Argentina. It's outside BMEWS coverage, but maybe they got some imagery of the flight?Bernard Woolley wrote: ↑Sat Mar 29, 2025 2:01 pm UK Polaris missiles post Chevaline upgrade generally had two warheads with a yield of 225Kt. Here’s HMS Revenge (S27) about to depart on the fateful patrol. That she had a missile symbol on her Skull and Crossbones flag when she returned provoked mix reactions and still does.

The difference between diplomacy and war is this: Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell so elegantly that they pack for the trip.
War is bringing hell down on that someone.

They shouldn’t have tried while Britain was fighting for their survival…

Photo: The Light Cruiser O'Higgins (CL-02) of the Chilean Navy fires a broadside against a Argentine land position during the Chilean-Argentine War of 1986 when Chile taking advantages of the destruction of the Argentine Navy main naval base by a Royal Navy fired Polaris SLBM on Puerto Belgrano Naval Base and an adjacent Argentine city invaded the Picton, Lennox and Nueva islands, the same island both countries almost went to war with in 1978 (Beagle conflict).
