Major Barzanian learned the art of billiards at Aztec Center, the old student union at San Diego State. (It has since been replaced by a blocky monstrosity that ruins the skyline on College Avenue and clashes with the rest of the campus architecture.)

I will admit the longer past 1900, the more unappealing I find most art and architecture, except Franklin Lloyd Wright.

Oddly enough, the old Aztec Center was . . . Wrightesque.

Sand-colored concrete, graceful arches and covered walkways that called to mind the San Diego Mission, the student lounge was glass-walled and very spacious . . . It fit the site. It didn't overwhelm, it was big enough for a 30,000-student campus, but not too big.

The new building completely blocks your view of Mission Valley if you're below the sixth floor of the dorm towers, and it's a big ugly wart if you're above that.

I screwed up my post, basically any past 1900, I'm unlikely to like art and architecture.

Does Doc survive the reunion immediately after publication?

Good question. I was thinking he did it under a pen name and changed the names to protect himself.

Penthouse was in Manhattan. They went with the Manhattan NDB initiation... Along with a bloody good Sci-Fi magazine called Omni. The same fella (Bob Guccoine) owned and published both.

Guys, I hope to have the latest installment up over the weekend-wacky CA weather permitting. Right now? My area of Fresno County has 3" of snow-and we usually see just 1" in a year. And more coming.. So I'm just hunkered down, waiting and writing.

OOC: I have to confess to a certain morbid curiosity myself. If only to see how Angelinos react, and what it does to the legendary LA traffic situation....

OOC: 1000 feet in Fresno County, with possible snow on the Valley floor.

Probably won’t stick on the valley floor.

If it's like Houston, TX, shut down the freeways due to all the overpasses, tell everyone to stay home, and the TV news saying it's the end times.

Part of the problem is that we don’t get snow, we get ice, and I defy anyone to try driving on a sheet of solid ice!

Back in the early 80s, while I was still living in Cedar Rapids, I drove back from home one Sunday. It was just after sunset, and the I-380 suddenly got icy. I did a 360 into the ditch along with a half dozen other cars.
