Thank goodness they went nowhere… nuclear-powered destroyers seems to be a bit much, don’t you think?

Just remember that in the 1950s and '60s, the Navy had plans for nuclear-powered destroyers, but the expense-and the Vietnam War-put paid to that idea.

There's going to be folks now putting out books going into detail on Soviet "Wonder Weapons" or "Wunderfaffe" that could've made the war a lot more difficult at the very least, you can bet on that.

OOC: I did actually have a discussion with someone on another site who claimed it existed and would also not accept that it was impractical for many, many reasons. They also claimed that the RAF seriously wanted to buy Mig-29s!

Whoever was passing that rumor around had to be smoking something weird…

Yup.

The Navy's approved term for the "DL" designator was "frigate." The DEs were "destroyer escorts," not to be confused with DDEs, which were "escort destroyers." #ClearAsMud

For what it's worth, Cindy was back on shift last Wednesday, and had a pretty quiet shift--a couple of minor traffic collisions, the usual panoply of moving violations and fix-it tickets, etc.

But one of her cow-orkers had his body cam footage go viral.

A suspect was running from the cops Thursday afternoon, and Trooper Dudley Do-Right rolls up just in time to see the guy try to run down a thirty-foot set of stairs on a hillside, right towards where ol' Dudley was waiting.

(No, that's his nickname; he's a dashingly handsome lad who is also, by all accounts, an absolute gentleman on and off the job.)

The stairs were icy.

Suspect goes ass over teakettle and bounces down the stairs. Took the starch right out of him, he's in the hospital with both legs in traction, fractured clavicle, et cetera, and so on, and so forth.

And then the Interwebz got ahold of it, slowed it down, and sync'd it to Eddie Murphy's classic Aunt Bunny falling down the stairs routine.

Roberta told me I'm going straight to Hell for laughing at that video, and would I be so kind as to (a) save her a seat on the bus, and (b) please bring chips and dip?

And Cindy's shootee had his arraignment today.

Grand (and, given that it was a Ferrari 812, it was extremely grand) theft auto, armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon x2, one count of special circumstances in that said assault was against a sworn law enforcement officer engaged in the performance of official duties, resisting arrest, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, felony bail jumping, multiple counts of failure to appear, and carrying false identification documents.

Pled not guilty to all counts, trial should begin within 60 days.

It's pretty cut and dried--he's there on security and video cameras, et cetera, and the police work was by the book.

Word is the DA is not in the mood to do a plea bargain.
