Broke 40C here today

So we're now at 29 days over 30 Celsius and possibly 18 over 32. Have to see what the final maximum extreme is for today.

Looks like 31.0 was the maximum for today. So we're at 29 and 17 days.

And today has easily gone through 32 Celsius. We're looking at over 34 Celsius being recorded in several locations today, and 35 Celsius may have been reached again.

So now 30 and 18 days respectively. We're 1 day off equalling the record for number of days over 32 Celsius in a year and 4 off equalling the record for number of days over 30 Celsius in a year.

And confirmed 35.2 Celcius today. 7th day over 35 Celsius this. The previous record was 5.

Not just AC. Very different architecture. Ours is able to handle large temperature swings on a given day (here in my part of CA a 40 degree temperature swing is not unusual for a summer day), but also across the seasons, where we have winters often as cold and wet as European ones combined with summers where the heat and humidity Europeans are dying in are called Tuesday.

AC is great, but buildings that are well insulated against hot and cold (instead of containing heat as our European members are contending with) is the win. As my place is sufficiently well insulated it holds in the nights cool against a 35c day without needing AC.

Yesterday saw 30 Celsius breached but not 32 Celsius. So we're now up to 18 and 31 days.

Turns out I'm a day out with my above 30 Celsius count.

Today was the day 33 above 30 Celsius this year according to that Met Office weather forecast video, so we're now one day each off the records for days above 30 Celsius in a year AND days above 32 Celsius in a year at 33 and 18 respectively as of now. Both those records from 1995 will almost certainly be equalled tomorrow. The 30 Celsius one definitely will be. We may even hit 35 Celsius in the south east again, which would be the fourth month in a row for 35 Celsius being reached somewhere in the UK. That would be jaw-dropping.

33.5 Celsius yesterday, so we've now equalled the days over 32 Celsius record at 19 days. Interestingly the Met Office stats for the day of that weather forecast I linked to showed 29.7 Celsius, so it appears the videp was wrong and we're therefore still one day off equalling the over 30 Celsius record after yesterday took it up to 33 days.

Today we've already breached 30 Celsius widely in the London and East Anglia. So that's the days over 30 Celsius record of 34 equalled today.

Looks like 31.5 is the highest value around at the moment, so it might breach 32 Celsius today and break that record.

Wonder when a 'Minister for Drought' is going to be appointed.....although some areas have had rain.

Anyone know how long it rained for after that was done in 76?

It rained here today. Two pretty heavy showers between 4 pm and 6 pm. Far from enough to make any dent in the drought of course.

As for compared to 1976? We're nowhere near as bad as that in overall drought terms. Why? We'd had a dry winter AND a dry spring before summer 1976.

Just looking at the weather stations, the highest temperatures are being reported from Class 4 and Class 5 sites.

Doesn't the SNP periodically say that is what is happening.....the English are stealing our water....despite there being no actual links....unlike the links from Wales to England.
