Royal Armouries Leeds
I was in Leeds over the weekend for the Great War Group conference. We were very graciously hosted by the Royal Armouries Leeds. It's a fantastic museum with some truly amazing exhibits, from the prototype Maxim MG, to what is probably the only complete set of armour for an Indian Elephant. Although I was on a VIP tour of the museum on Sunday, I think I could spend several days there!
I would highly recommend a visit. I do plan to go back to Leeds at some point in the near future, so I can visit it again.
Also, there is a really nice bookshop in Leeds Dock next to the armouries and great pub within walking distance.
Btw, Paul McGann is a very nice man in person.

Going to agree that the Royal Armouries Leeds is a great place to visit and a vast improvement on when the collection was at the Tower of London.
I vaguely the remember the Tower and shuffling past displays, barely able to see anything as a young lad.

I think could spend a week in there. It even has a bar upstairs in the conference facility! Plus, it’s great that a decent hotel and pub are within walking distance.

There are conference facilities that don’t have bars?Bernard Woolley wrote: ↑Tue Oct 20, 2026 6:58 pm I think could spend a week in there. It even has a bar upstairs in the conference facility! Plus, it’s great that a decent hotel and pub are within walking distance.

If you can get back to the Armouries, they have more than just the weapons. They have full sets of check fixtures and jigs for almost every Tower Pattern weapon ever manufactured until the late 19th century.

He’s apparently going to come on the GWG Getaway and come to the next conference as a normal punter!
I believe the armouries got everything out of the old MoD Pattern Room.
