Whichever location is chosen, it won't be long until the Seabees show up to start doing their thing. If it's expanding an existing facility, they will build what the USN needs, and then some. If it's essentially building from scratch? They will build everything that is needed.

One thing that needs to be considered is air defense. Either expanding an existing facility or building a new one is going to be noticed by the Soviets. one way or another. And they will consider it well worth attacking. After the construction schedule, defending the installation will be on folks' minds.

True prudence would be beefing up the defence before the SeaBees even start the first excavator.
If I were the enemy, I‘d sacrifice a few munitions for the chance of offing highly trained military personell.

Another enjoyable instalment.

One of the strengths of TLW, for me, is that you have not chosen, with the exception of the uplifted cameos of some contributors, to try and tell the story of something as huge as a world war through an excessive character based lense, with a ‘central cast’ popping up for multiple theatres. This allows the enormous scope of the conflict to come to the forefront.

It is a particular authorial choice, different to that in The Further Adventures of HMS Hood (now there’s a tale that deserves to be reposted!) where the ship and officers were the centrepiece, rather than the War itself. Either can work, but you’ve managed to stick with this one and develop your style along the way very effectively.

The USN FFLs are an interesting example of how the longevity of the tale allows for slotting in new and different weapons systems.

Seeing the consequences and results of the decision to call up/conscript manpower is a very interesting snippet, and being an aficionado of British civil defence, one I appreciated greatly.
