Wartime Music: What did you listen to?

Post by Matt Wiser »

Might as well start a new thread for this: what music did you listen to during the war-and is that still on your playlist?

I had a pretty decent playlist, and in no particular order:

Stevie Nicks had three on mine: Stand Back, If Anyone Falls, and Talk to Me.

Katrina and the Waves: Rockin' on Sunshine and We Gotta Get out of this Place,

Belinda Carlisle: Heaven is a Place on Earth, I Feel Free, Feel the Magic, I Get Weak,

Kim Carnes: Bette Davis Eyes, and Nobody Knows (From the Vanishing Point soundtrack)

Kenny Rogers: The Gambler, and Islands in the Stream (with Dolly Parton)

Kenny Loggins: Danger Zone (yeah, Top Gun wasn't released until 1989, but...)

Eddie Money/Ronnie Spector: Take Me Home Tonight

Slade: Run Run Runaway

Pink Floyd: Another Brick in the Wall

Olivia Newton-John: Magic, Physical,Soul Kiss, Twist of Fate

ELO: Don't Bring Me Down

Murray Head: One Night in Bangkok

Bananarama: Cruel Summer

Pointer Sisters: Jump (For my Love)

Soft Cell: Tainted Love

Cutting Crew: If I Died in Your Arms Tonight

Huey Lewis and the News: Heart of Rock and Roll

Bob Seeger and the Silver Bullet Band: Old Time Rock and Roll

And that's just the start!
The difference between diplomacy and war is this: Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell so elegantly that they pack for the trip.
War is bringing hell down on that someone.

Anything by Queen was a must-play.

Some of my favorites from that time:

Styx, Rockin' the Paradise, Come Sail Away, Renegade.

Night Ranger, You Can Still Rock in America, Seven Wishes, Sentimental Street, and Goodbye.

Adrenalin, Road of the Gypsy.

Autograph, Turn Up the Radio.

Cameo, Word Up!

Dire Straits, Walk of Life and Money for Nothing

The Bangles, Walk Like an Egyptian

Phil Collins, In the Air Tonight
