...He also wrote The Shepherd, possibly the best aviation ghost story of all time. Sadly, the Disney movie of it from last year was a fizzle, but the book lives on and the CBC did a truly chilling radio play of it many years ago which can still be found online.

A Glorious Ode To USS ENTERPRISE (CV-6)...
...From X. And on reflection, this may in fact the most accurate description of the Big E I've ever read. Re: Artificial blood out of Japan
That doesn't answer the big question. What do vampires thing about the taste and mouthfeel of the artificial blood? Is it palatable, or like the sludge at the bottom of a Navy coffee maker? Would go three towns over to pick up a bottle, or just go down the village at the bottom of the hill for a fr...

The last living grandson of the 10th U.S. President John Tyler has died at 96 years old — the end of a link to a bygone era of American history. Harrison Ruffin Tyler died on Sunday evening, May 25, his family said in a statement to CBS News. His grandfather, who was born in 1790, left the Oval Off...

What the ever loving F&#K did they do to make the ship rotate in two dimensions during the launch? Forget to remove the stops in the middle or something? I've seen videos of a bunch of sideways launches because I like to see the idiots watching from the opposite shore get chased away by the wav...

....And you know, only now has it occurred to me that Oscar Meyer/Kraft should have shoveled out as much money as it took to get Clarkson, Hammond, and May to call the race.
Woulda been EPIC.

Re: North Korean DDG launch
Yes, this is not going to be pretty. At the same time I amazed that it tore the ship apart. When I was a kid, we used to watch side launches at American Shipbuilding in Lorain, where my dad worked - several of the USCG's 210' cutters and a NOAA research ship. IIRC, much bigger than that, and you'd ...

Although I would like to see the kind of missile a F-14 could lug in the tunnel in place of the four Aim-54 Phoenix. Probably more size limited than weight limited. Also, range when released after a 45 degree afterburner zoom climb. ....When I get home I'm going to look up the stats for SKYBOLT. :e...

Thanks for posting that! Always had a distinct affection for the Wirraway and the Boomerang - both still well remembered in Australia, but unjustly forgotten elsewhere.M.Becker wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 9:18 pm I just leave that here for no particular reason.

"Gunslinger".
I like it. A year or so back, the Powers That Be wouldn't have even given it a name, lest we offend one of the nations we would be shooting it at.
