Re: NASA announces major overhaul of Artemis moon program amid safety concerns, delays: "We've got to get back to basics
Retired IT. I always wanted people to leave their computers on over night so the MS pushed updates would install over night. It didn't always work. I may have used the dashboard to push updates to people who hadn't rebooted their computers in a few weeks and did a force reboot. In case of hospitals...

outlook is notoriously buggy and badly coded, I think I had pretty much identical issue with it yesterday ironically (two instances, as update induced lag of opening 1st instance made me think i didnt open one yet... and then white screen app doom loop as it sees non-completion of log-in from its e...

Ahem....George Washington would like a word.... We have had major warships named GEORGE WASHINGTON or WASHINGTON since the founding of the US Navy, so he’s moved from Army guy to famous ship. Fair enough. There was also a SSBN named after Andrew Jackson. Grant too it seems. Navy likes prominent eno...

Re: When is an invasive species not invasive?
There is no native species of it, doesn't seem to be a negative factor with the general environment/other species, and has fitted into its niche quite well?
Leave it alone.
Leave it alone.

Re: Thoughts on the Embraer C-390 Millennium tactical airlifter
Embraer has teamed up with Northrop Grumman and is trying to get the US Airforce interested in a boom equipped version as a tanker to supplement the KC-46s. One thing I liked about 'Arrival' was that it showed how hard it could be to communicate with aliens.

Stuart, peace be upon him, told a story about about some Chinese visiting the place he worked and commenting about the idea that there are too many Chinese to kill. Stuart and his coworkers did calculations and found that with a small percentage of the US nuclear arsenal at the time could kill just ...

NRO partially declassifies Jumpseat (SIGINT satellite)
They admit it exists and provide some pictures. Not much more than that at the moment. One of the rumored uses was to listen in to the telemetry from Soviet missile tests. Re: Pancreatic cancer treatment news
Good news!
Pancreatic cancer is one of those that can develop slowly and quietly until it explodes. My mum was feeling fine when she started going downhill but no one could explain why. They did a ultrasound of her abdomen and found cancer all over the place. She was gone 2 days later.

Saw this video floating around and it’s hilarious: https://youtu.be/oJpvPwoplAE I have not been able to verify the veracity of the video, but I honestly don’t want to. Sadly, there has not been a submarine named JELLYFISH to commemorate the brave service performed by LAFTFLEET jellyfish to protect ...

The King served in the RN during World War One and was at Jutland on the HMS Collin...

I haven't seen this but I've heard about some of the issues. Apollo did a number of unmanned test flights testing out the systems. Here its more of a 'That was old tech from slide rule days. We don't need no stinken testing!'

I'm hoping Artemis II gets canceled or changed to unmanned. Some of the details, especially using the type heat shield that was used on the first, make me uneasy.

Well I created a missile system that is like if a SM-2 had a wild night with a Phoenix and Sea Dart and got kissed by a Patriot and had child that the AI wrote up a doctrine, launch sequence, and ship requirements.

ChatGPT and ship design
I've been playing around with ChatGpt and alt-history writing. You really have to ride herd on it but it produces some interesting result. You feed in the data like engine type, weapons, radars, era, etc and it'll create a design with stats and such. Nice for getting ideas for a ship.
