Surviving Blackhawk Down

3 part documentary out on Netflix. Very good series with interviews from both sides, including the cameraman that video taped Durant's interrogation.

2023 Reads

Well I've done this the past two years or so, might as well keep it going. In 2023 I finished 21 books. One set of re reads (Hard Magic trilogy). By far the favorite was Perelandra. So much so I ended up with that entire trilogy as a Christmas gift. Perelandra-cs Lewis That hideous strength-cs Lewis...

Re: Another Airman killed by Osprey

Back in 2018, I was in a class with a CV-22 Flight Engineer, and the topic of the aircraft's safety reputation came up. He pointed out that the CV-22 had the best safety rating of any aircraft operated by the US Air Force, with only 2 crashes and zero fatalities. (Interesting fact--both crashes were...

Re: Retirement

I'm trying to finish spring cleaning, go out for walks twice a day, and plan for a trip to Big Bend Region next spring. There's a couple of other trips, I'm planning. I'm also trying to roll over my work 401Ks to my IRA. There's festivals and such around Houston I've never gone to. I'd like to corr...

2022... Lots of sci-fi, nothing really memorable. For 2023 I am gearing up to re-read (for the umpteenth time) the absolutely gorgeous Aubrey-Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian. I had the lot in paperback once but disposed of them a few years ago, now I am going to rebuy them one by one for the Kind...

Re: 2022 Reading list

Crazy Horse and Custer is a good introduction, and if you haven’t already I’d recommend Son of the Morning Star and then The Last Stand. I have a good dozen books on Custerana and The Little Bighorn, and the picture grows more opaque - and thus more facinating - as I learn more. We don’t even know ...
