Re: Pigs, erm WHAT??!!!!

Usually we'd use that phrase after discussing something viewed as unlikely bordering on impossible. Like America threatening to take Greenland by force. Or that significant political figures be linked to a pedophile. "Oh yeah, that'll be when pigs fly" Only now......... So I guess we shoul...

Re: Sweden Considers French Defense Frigates to Strengthen Naval Power in Baltic Sea.

Ok this is getting interesting. UK efforts seem to focus on industrial integration between UK and naval partner states. Something that seems to be happening with the Norwegian Type 26. In other words a much deeper relationship than just the ship. And is that a quid-pro-quo that happened over A26 to ...

NG is talking of triple packing CAMM-ER into Sylver silos.

If true it could be a game changer.

Re: What preceded the Germanic language at its point of origin

There was some indication that the Nordwestblock showed similarities with Aquitanian. But that's believed to be much later and an influence on West Germanic to Inguaevonic (North Sea Germanic). But this is quite interesting in adding to the number of pre-indo-european languages. Of which only Basque...

Re: Technical Question on warhead numbers

Back in that 60's paper, it suggests just 135 Minuteman would be enough for 20 cities. I assume this was with single large Megaton warheads? I'll re-read it tonight. UK Granite Zones might just accommodate 120 silos so at 5km separation. But at China style 3km separation a maximum squeezing in might...

Technical Question on warhead numbers

How many warheads be needed to destroy sufficient stuff/people in Russia or China to collapse their state? Currently both sides, US and Russia have active operational numbers of about 1,500 by Treaty. Is this enough? Back in the early 60's, when a alternative submission was made for Minuteman missil...

Re: Sweden Considers French Defense Frigates to Strengthen Naval Power in Baltic Sea.

I would have thought CAMM not CAMM-ER as then there is compatibility with Visby class upgrade. The French may....I must stress may....be playing with fire here. CAMM and it's technologies is primarily under UK control and MBDA is part owned by BAE Systems who in turn is in it's UK side still with UK...

Re: Sweden Considers French Defense Frigates to Strengthen Naval Power in Baltic Sea.

Smells of strategic partnership and actual arguments for and against systems be more the window dressing than the substance. France can offer assistance with nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. Swedens uranium supply and potential restart of nuclear weapons program is the obvious big issue no on...

Re: Benefits of SSNs

If you have enough submarines, having one turn up at home for repair is obviously countered by another deploying.

Ideally you send out the next submarine before the first returns just to give the enemy's spies that little extra heartburn. Knowing two submarines be somewhere out there.
