Re: Slow Horses
I love the characterisation, but felt that season 5 became preachy and political and that plot credibility collapsed in the last two episodes.

Pluribus
I’ve watched the entire first season of Pluribus and find it intriguing. Created by the writer of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, it is a slow burn drama about most of humanity becoming infected with an alien virus that turns them into a hive mind but makes them completely happy. A few people are...

Re: House of Dynamite
My issue with it was that it didn't earn its ending. The comparisons with Fail Safe are obvious and both films were suitably tense. Rebecca Ferguson was excellent. Fail Safe is a better film IMHO.

Well, thanks for the replies all. I'm going to track down the following two articles. Politics, Strategy, and American Diplomacy: Studies in Foreign Policy, 1873-1917. Grenville, J.A.S.; Young, G.B.; Yale University (1966). Yale University Press. ISBN 978-0-300-00511-0. Imperial senate: American Leg...

Re: Why did the United States want the Philippines?
The idea of securing the sea lanes to China seems like an argument open to attack. I'm not saying China trade wasn't the reason, but there must have been arguments against it. So I guess what I need to know about is the 1898 Treaty of Paris and the debate leading up to February 6, 1899, when the U.S...

Why did the United States want the Philippines?
I get wanting Cuba, Panama and other Caribbean possessions from Spain; Monroe doctrine etc, but what was the impetus for colonising the Philippines?

Thank you!
I suspect the bibliographies of both books will be useful.

Re: Drake's Drum
I'm wondering if the Montanas would have gotten the King Nimitz modification of the Iowas. If you have a minute check out the USN Appendix on the Drake's Drum website. The follow on class to the Montanas (the Wyoming BB72 class) get the King/Nimitz mods that we might have seen in BB65 Illinois and ...

Re: Drake's Drum
Purely from a personal curiosity standpoint, how did you create the Montana pictures? I assume they're a modified shot of an Iowa class? Also - IN regards to your kind offer, my birthday is coming up at the end of April, and I hope to receive the Drake's Drum set at that point. I'll be certain to P...

Re: Drake's Drum
In other news there is a new update to the Drake's Drum website which includes the addition of password accessible content. It consists of Annex 19, which is a complete Drake's Drum timeline and an Interlude chapter which was an attempt at comic relief, but didn't really propel the plot forward. If ...

Re: Drake's Drum
There have been far too few pictures of enormous warships in this thread lately, so here's two images of Montana class battleships modernised for service with the USN in the 1980s.

Re: Drake's Drum
A big update to the Drake's Drum website has just gone live. Photographs from Part 4 Drake's Drum: Horizon of Our Hopes have been added. Just as a taster, we have a photograph from the time of the Crisis Cascade of 1973. An RAF Hawker-Siddeley Hotspur fighter (based on the Hawker P.1125, a project f...

This first image in this post is photoshopped. This is a Japanese aircraft that never flew in our time line. It is based on the Plan VIII reconnaissance aircraft designed by the Rikugun Kokugijutsu Kenkūjo in 1941 and finalised by 1943/4. An example is depicted here as it might be after capture by ...
